The vineyard is located in the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation, and the soil is a mix of clay-gravel, ideal for cultivating Cabernet Franc and Merlot, while another section features fine gravel and gritty sand, providing the perfect conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon to achieve full ripeness.
As with all the Barton family's endeavours, great importance is attached to environmental protection and the quality of the wines produced. The 55-hectare vineyard is planted with 54% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 11% Cabernet Franc.
A blend of 54% Merlot, 39.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6.5% Cabernet Franc, this wine has been steadily gaining in stature, and this is a great success. Masses of ripe, brambly fruit and blackcurrant on the nose with savoury cedar notes. On the palate, layers of black cherry and red fruits are lifted by a touch of minerality, adding a refreshing vibrancy. Ripe, smooth tannins provide structure, and the finish is long and elegant. Enjoyable now but has the potential for graceful aging.
Harvested by hand between 27th September and 13th October to ensure the highest quality, the grapes undergo a careful selection process. They are then transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for fermentation and maceration. The aging process lasts 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels, one-third of which are new. These barrels are placed on a gravel bed to help regulate humidity and promote the optimal maturation of the wine.
